By definition, a master planned community is a community that has a macro vision, made up of smaller micro visions. It is the whole pie in which each slice represents a different flavor, yet all slices still work together in a comprehensive fashion. (Gerson Lehrman Group)
Bridgeland has just that — a comprehensive vision comprised of thoughtfully designed features that give the community its own unique character and charm, but blend together to make it a very special place. Here are the features that make Bridgeland different from other communities:
3,000 Acres of Open Space
Before development in Bridgeland began, the original land planners conducted an extensive environmental study to find how best to protect, preserve and restore much of the natural environment within its boundaries. As a result, Bridgeland chose to devote 3,000 acres to open space. Bridgeland's master plan resulted in a sustainable community, providing a place for both residents and wildlife to thrive for generations to come.
Variety of Housing Options
Bridgeland believes it is not about the quantity of homes built but the quality of life for those who live here. The community will not be one of 21,000 homes of the same style and price range. Homes may be found in a wide range of housing prices, styles and densities, from conventional neighborhoods in price points from the $250s, to custom home designs in excess of $1 million. An exciting “new urbanism” project, Lakeland Heights, opened in the spring of 2010, offering yet another housing type to prospective buyers.
Bridgeland is one of only a few master planned communities in the nation to develop a comprehensive education plan for its residents. The plan includes sites for preschools, private schools, schools for special needs students, multiple public school locations as well as satellite college campuses and continuing adult education classes, all within the borders of the Bridgeland community. The first on-site elementary school opened in August 2013.
60 Miles of Interconnecting Trails
Bridgeland will offer a hierarchy of trails, border-to-border, to provide connectivity for pedestrian and bicycle traffic to various villages, village centers and activity centers. Exercise trails with fitness stations will be available throughout the development, as will nature trails along waterways and creeks, to provide views of waterfowl, aquatic plants and grasses and to expand recreational educational opportunities.
Complimentary Recreation Equipment
Recreation equipment is offered so families can enjoy the great outdoors and embrace all the amenities that living in Bridgeland provides. Everything from kayaks and canoes to bicycles, volleyball equipment and fishing poles — residents will find it all! We even provide bait so you can reel in the big one, but getting the fish off the hook is up to you!
Bridgeland is the first community in Houston to embrace the "purple pipe" system from the onset of development. This system uses recycled water from community lakes to irrigate all common areas, saving a significant amount of water and helping the community to run more cost effectively. Bridgeland is proactively implementing this sustainable process for its irrigation needs before it becomes a mandatory requirement, thereby reducing the use of such a precious resource.
Full-Time Activities Directors
The community of Bridgeland will have full-time Activities Directors to design programming that ranges from arts and crafts classes to fishing and nature field trips to explore the community’s locale. The Activities Director at Lakeland Activity Center has more than 30 monthly classes and many community-wide events for residents to enjoy this year.
Hundreds of Acres of Lakes
More than 900 acres of lakes and waterways are planned to provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities and quiet respite just steps from your door. The first phase of development alone offers more than 400 acres of lakes that were stocked in 2007 for catch-and-release fishing. Into bird-watching? More than 140 species of migratory birds can be found feeding or gliding across the lakes.
Future Town Center
Bridgeland has developed a plan for a bustling Town Center that may include hospitals, schools, future employment, entertainment and a variety of shopping and dining choices. The Town Center will be adjacent to the proposed Grand Parkway and will be the hub of activity for the community.
Resort-Style Activity Complexes
Multiple recreation facilities offering swimming pools for all ages, community centers, ball fields, tennis courts and more will be conveniently located throughout the development for the exclusive use of Bridgeland residents and their guests, as will a variety of shopping and dining choices.
Better Street Scene and Safe Play Havens
While Bridgeland has well-defined borders, residents will never find long stretches of fencing with homes backing to busy thoroughfares. Bridgeland’s combination of majestic brick and stone elevations face main streets that are adjacent to slip roads creating less traffic for residents, a safer play haven for children and a better street scene.
Bridgeland has fiber-optic wiring direct to every home that delivers high-speed internet and cinema-quality television, planned with enough bandwidth to deliver the next generation of data and telecommunications services. Bridgeland has also partnered with AT&T to offer U-Verse to residents, bringing you interactive home entertainment the way it should be.
Within each of the four villages, Bridgeland is planning for shopping hubs that will have their own unique character and charm, thus avoiding typical unattractive retail strip centers.
Terraced Entrances and Elevated Homesites
All homes are built on elevated homesites, giving a commanding presence. A traditional brick-lined walkway and wing wall, coupled with an upgraded landscaping package, give every home great curb appeal.
